As October 2022 closes out, so does mental health awareness month. The topic of mental health is very important and needs to be brought to into the light. As one of my best friends deals with daily depression, anxiety and severe alcoholism, I have tried to get him to therapy and rehab more times than I can count. In fact, I even took him to rehab, went in with him to get him checked in and then after check in, I left.
After two hours of him being there, he called me over fifteen times to come and get him. I didn’t go until the next day because I got another twenty calls to come get him, so I did. He doesn’t want help and what can I do about that, nothing. It was his Idea to go in the first place. It is sad, because I can’t do anything about it.
Although still being his friend and talking on the phone and visiting once month, all I can do is be there for him. I’m not going to lie, it is hard to be his friend these days. He doesn’t work and he doesn’t leave his one bedroom apartment much. He drinks daily, smokes weed and just exists. Our conversations are always the same and all he can do is live in the past with what we did together twenty five years ago. That is great, but I live my life for today and have so much more to talk about.
His social skills have deminished as well as his ability to walk, talk and think correctly. He has an abusive girlfriend that he keeps seeing, for what I don’t know, but maybe it is because she is the only person that can relate to his alcoholism as she is a chronic alcoholic. Not a great way to live and for me it really sucks because I miss the friend I had before the depression and alcoholism really kicked in to overdrive.
I can go for days on this story, but the main reason for this post was because I was asked to photograph a Google 360° Virtual Tour for a mental health thearpy office. The office is in San Diego and it is called Good Therapy San Diego. It is a brand new office space for them as they have moved three times now because the business keeps growing.
So if you are in the San Diego area and would like a compassionate and skilled listener, call on Good Therapy and make an appointment, www.goodtherapysandiego.com and take a look at the warm and inviting office space here –https://goo.gl/maps/CDtff1ExjcrpVeoU8
